Zili was born of a personal and professional epiphany that forced me to recognize the gaps in women’s health care education and awareness.
As a family physician over more than a decade and thousands of patients, I have witnessed an increasing number of devastating physical and psychological illnesses, many of which could have been more effectively treated if diagnosed earlier or avoided altogether with the right level of care. Since there has been no platform to educate women on their health care needs, and in turn partner more effectively with their physicians, I founded Zili C.A.R.E. to provide preventative health strategies that will inform and assist women in navigating our medical system to their own specific health care advantages.
Just being female is a social determinant of health, meaning that women are already disadvantaged in our health care system; a system that’s simply not set up to support women’s specific needs for mental and physical health in areas of access, research and tools. My hope is that Zili C.A.R.E. will put the true meaning of health and self care at the forefront of all Canadian women’s lives with evidence driven information and insights, lifestyle tools and robust and supportive community. Enhancing quality of life while at the same time reducing the heavy load on our healthcare system serves the patient/physician partnership. That’s my goal; Zili’s goal.
